This is a 10-kilometer walk but ponies and porters are available if you do not want to carry your bags.
The next day you trek from Ghangaria to the Valley of Flowers which is around 4 kilometers one way. You can return to Ghangaria the same day. The path is not very steep but there are some uphill sections. If you walk slowly and take breaks you can complete it without much trouble.
Although the trek is easy compared to others in the Himalayas it is still important to be physically prepared. Try walking for 30 to 45 minutes every day for at least a month before the trek. Climbing stairs is also a good way to prepare your legs for the uphill sections. Drink plenty of water and eat healthy food to build stamina.
You do not need to be an athlete to complete this trek but being active and fit makes the experience more enjoyable. Also try to carry a backpack while walking during your training as it will help you get used to it.

If you are trekking with a group or an organizer your stay and food are usually included in the package. You can also trek on your own but booking in advance during the peak season is a good idea.
The Valley of Flowers is open from June to early October. But the best time to see the flowers is from mid-July to mid-August. This is when the valley is full of colorful flowers like blue poppies daisies and orchids. The weather is cool but not very cold. Rains are common during this time so carry a raincoat and waterproof shoes.
The highest point of the trek is around 12000 feet. Some people may feel mild signs of altitude sickness like headache or tiredness. But this is rare if you walk slowly stay hydrated and rest well. Spending a night at Ghangaria before visiting the valley helps your body adjust to the height.
First-time trekkers may feel more comfortable joining a guided trek. The organizers take care of food stay and safety. You also get to meet other trekkers which adds to the fun. If you have some experience in mountain travel and are confident you can also plan the trek on your own.
