When to Visit

Tawang is beautiful during summers, the temperature is moderate and climate is pleasant which is the plus point to explore the place. The best time to travel to Tawang is summer and the beginning of the Monsoon season, March to May and June. All the attractions are open during this period and it becomes easy to fulfil the travel bucket list in the town.

How to Visit

The best way to reach this hilly region is by Air. Though the town doesn’t have its own airport but it is very well connected via air, the nearest airport which connects to Tawang is Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi situated in Guwahati. You can hire taxi or bus to reach the destination. 

There are various state transport bus that runs regularly to and from Tawang and is very economical. Buses in the region runs during daylight as it becomes risky to travel on hilly roads during dark. 

Tawang is not accessible by Railways. The nearest station is Rangapara in Tezpur, Assam.

Mediate in Taktsang Gompa

This is one of the best things to do in this scenic little town. Meditate in Taktsang Gompa is one of the important places of worship in the town. The architecture of Gompa is from olden times with huge pillars, magnificent drawings on the wall, the hanging Tibetan flag and the holy bells are the key features to visit the place. Visit the place to imbibe calmful vibe in yourself.

Undergo Hiking at Gorichen Peak

Hiking is the famous adventurous activity to do in Tawang. Hike to Gorichen Peak with your group or solo and feel the happiness of viewing the town from above. It is one of the highest peaks in the state and is known as the toughest trekking mountain to climb on. If adventure excites you then hiking is to do activity.

Shop all your needs at Tibetan Settlement

All the shopaholics, head to this old Tibetan Settlement to empty your valet by shopping some of the traditional clothing and ornaments. These precious metals and stones are rare to find and are so gorgeous that you won’t be able to resist yourself from buying them.

Fill your tummy by eating the yummy and traditional food dishes. Try the Tibetan soup, the authentic Thukpa and the vegetable salad which are known to be some of the specials of this food palace. Foodies prepare yourself to have some of the mouth watering dishes of this town while visiting this place.

Pay tribute at Jaswant Garh

Show your love towards the nation here, by paying the tribute to braver martyrs who died for the nation. The memorial is built in the memory of Jaswant Singh Rawat a brave chief army officer who served for his nation till the last breath. The memorial is the perfect spot for one day excursion, head to this place to get the feeling of patriotism.
