When youâre craving a quick escape from the chaos of city life, Coorg (Kodagu) makes the perfect choice. Known as the Scotland of India, this hill station in Karnataka is all about coffee-scented air, rolling green hills, hidden waterfalls, and a culture that feels both warm and welcoming. A 3-day Coorg tour package is just the right amount of time to soak in its highlights without rushing.
Let me take you through how I explored Coorg in three days, along with practical tips on the best time to visit, budgeting, and nearby attractions.
Coorg doesnât have its own railway station or airport, but thatâs what makes the journey part of the adventure. The nearest airports are Mangalore (160 km) and Bangalore (260 km). I started from Bangalore by road, a 5â6 hour drive with scenic stretches through coconut groves and forested ghats. If you donât drive, buses and cabs are easily available.
The closer you get to Coorg, the fresher the air feels. By the time I arrived, the sound of cicadas and the aroma of coffee plantations had already set the mood for a relaxing getaway.
After checking into a cozy homestay surrounded by pepper vines and coffee shrubs, I began my Coorg adventure. My first stop was Abbey Falls, where water gushes down amidst lush plantations â the short trek to reach it is just as refreshing as the falls themselves.
Later in the evening, I visited Rajaâs Seat, a viewpoint once used by Kodagu kings to enjoy sunsets. Watching the sun dip behind layers of misty hills with cool breeze brushing your face is the best way to start your trip. Dinner that night was a local spread â spicy Pandi Curry (pork) with Akki Roti, a dish I still crave.
The second day was more about heritage and culture. Early morning, I drove to Talakaveri, the origin of the River Kaveri, located in the Brahmagiri hills. The temple here is serene, but the panoramic views from the nearby steps were the real reward.
Next, I visited the Namdroling Monastery (Golden Temple) at Bylakuppe, one of the largest Tibetan settlements in India. The giant golden Buddha statues and chanting monks made it an unexpectedly calming stop.
In the afternoon, I headed to Dubare Elephant Camp, where you can watch elephants being bathed and even feed them. Itâs especially fun if youâre traveling with kids. By evening, I strolled through Madikeri town, trying local chocolates and picking up coffee beans to take home.
On my last day, I kept things light. A short trek to Iruppu Falls gave me a quiet moment with nature away from crowds. Before leaving, I joined a coffee plantation tour, where locals explained the process of growing, harvesting, and roasting beans. Tasting freshly brewed coffee in the middle of a plantation was the perfect goodbye to Coorg.
The best time to visit Coorg is from October to March, when the weather is cool and perfect for sightseeing. If you love monsoons, June to September offers lush greenery and flowing waterfalls, but heavy rains can disrupt travel.
Depending on your style, a 3-day Coorg tour package can cost anywhere between â¹7,000â20,000 per person.
Three days in Coorg felt like pressing pause on lifeâs rush. From waterfalls and temples to coffee estates and elephant camps, every corner had something refreshing to offer. The blend of adventure, culture, and relaxation makes it perfect for couples, families, or even solo travelers.
If youâre looking for a short getaway that balances calm and discovery, a 3-day Coorg tour package is exactly what you need â and trust me, the smell of coffee will follow you home long after youâve left the hills.
