When I was looking for a quick escape from city life, Coorgâfamously called the âScotland of Indiaââcame up again and again. Nestled in the Western Ghats of Karnataka, this hill station is a paradise of rolling coffee plantations, misty hills, gushing waterfalls, and rich Kodava culture. A 3 days Coorg tour package turned out to be the ideal way to soak in its beauty without feeling rushed.
If youâre planning a short getaway, let me take you through my personal experience and how to make the most of three magical days in Coorg.
My trip began with an early morning drive from Bangalore, which takes about 5â6 hours. The journey itself is part of the charmâwinding roads lined with coconut trees and then the cool mist welcoming you as you climb into the hills.
By noon, I reached Madikeri, the heart of Coorg, where most travelers base themselves. After checking into my homestay (a must-try for an authentic Kodava experience), I set out to explore the town.
Dinner was a local Kodava thali, filled with unique dishes like pandi curry (pork curry) and akki rotti (rice roti). Already, I knew three days might not be enough.
The second day of my Coorg tour package was reserved for nature and coffeeâthe two things that define this region.
I started with a visit to Abbey Falls, just a short drive from Madikeri. The roar of the waterfall surrounded by dense greenery was refreshing, and the hanging bridge near it gave a perfect photo spot.
Later, I toured a coffee plantation. Walking through the aromatic estates, learning about how coffee is grown, harvested, and roasted was an unforgettable experience. The guide also explained how spices like pepper and cardamom thrive alongside coffee here. The highlight? A freshly brewed cup of Coorg coffee, rich and strong.
In the afternoon, I headed to Dubare Elephant Camp on the banks of the Cauvery River. Watching elephants being bathed and fed by their mahouts was heartwarming, and for those interested, thereâs even an option to interact closely with these gentle giants.
By evening, I returned to Madikeri and enjoyed some shoppingâhomemade chocolates, honey, and of course, packets of Coorg coffee beans to take home.
The last day was dedicated to a more spiritual and scenic side of Coorg. I drove to Talakaveri, the origin point of the river Cauvery. Situated atop the Brahmagiri Hills, the temple here has a serene energy, and the surrounding views are breathtaking. Standing there, I felt a deep sense of calmâlike Coorg had given me both adventure and peace in equal measure.
On the way back, I also stopped at Bhagamandala, a sacred confluence of three rivers, where the temple architecture reflects Kerala-style influences.
After a traditional lunch, it was time to head back to Bangalore. The journey downhill felt bittersweetâI was leaving Coorg, but with memories of misty mornings, earthy coffee, and the warmth of Kodava hospitality.
The beauty of Coorg changes with the seasons. October to March is the best time if you love cool, misty weather and outdoor sightseeing. June to September is the monsoon seasonâwaterfalls are at their best, but heavy rains can sometimes affect travel.
In just three days, Coorg gave me more than I expectedâsunsets from Rajaâs Seat, the soothing splash of Abbey Falls, the taste of freshly brewed coffee, and quiet moments at Talakaveri. What makes Coorg special is that it blends adventure, culture, and relaxation effortlessly.
If youâre short on time but want to feel refreshed, a 3 days Coorg tour package is perfect. Youâll return with not just photos, but stories, flavors, and a lingering love for this little slice of the Western Ghats.
