Ali Bedni Bugyal Trek is one of the most beautiful and peaceful treks in India. Located in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand, this trek takes you through lush green meadows, dense forests, and offers stunning views of the Himalayan peaks. It is perfect for beginners and also loved by experienced trekkers because of its calm surroundings and easy-to-moderate difficulty level.
If you are looking for a quiet place to enjoy nature, walk through wide open grasslands, and see snow-covered mountains without the rush of popular tourist spots, then Ali Bedni Bugyal is the right choice.
Ali and Bedni are two alpine meadows located in the Garhwal Himalayas of Uttarakhand. They are part of the Nanda Devi Biosphere Reserve and are situated on the route to the famous Roopkund trek. The trek begins from a small village called Lohajung, which is around 220 kilometers from Kathgodam, the nearest railway station.
The Ali Bedni Bugyal Trek begins from Lohajung, the base camp accessible by road, with a scenic journey featuring winding roads, rivers, and breathtaking views of Himalayan peaks along the way.
There are many reasons why this trek is special.
First, the twin meadows of Ali and Bedni are among the largest high-altitude grasslands in India. They are covered with fresh green grass during summer and turn golden during autumn. During spring, these meadows are dotted with colorful wildflowers.
Second, the trek offers great views of some of the tallest mountains in India, including Mt Trishul and Mt Nanda Ghunti. These snow-covered peaks look especially beautiful during sunrise and sunset.
Third, the trek goes through peaceful oak and rhododendron forests. These forests are full of birds and wildlife, and walking through them is a calm and relaxing experience.
Lastly, the trek is not too difficult. It is a good choice for beginners who want to try a Himalayan trek for the first time. You do not need any special skills, but basic fitness is important.
The best time to do this trek is from April to June and then again from September to early November. During these months, the weather is clear and the views are at their best.
In spring and early summer, the meadows are green and filled with flowers. The forests have blooming rhododendron trees with pink and red flowers. The sky is usually clear, and you can see the snow-covered peaks easily.
In autumn, the grass in the meadows turns golden, giving the landscape a warm, rich look. The skies are again mostly clear, and the temperature is comfortable during the day and slightly cold at night.
During the monsoon months of July and August, the trail becomes slippery and risky due to heavy rain. Winter is also not ideal for this trek because the meadows are covered in snow and the trail becomes hard to follow.
