The trek to Indrahar Pass in the state of Himachal Pradesh is categorized as easy to moderate. Beyond Triund:


From Triund, the route continues to Laka, which crosses a meadow, where it leads to the Lahesh Cave. From there, it continues to the Indrahar Pass, where it ends with a short hike on rocks that leads directly to the ridge's northeast face. The Kangra valley and a few far-off Punjabi plains shrouded in a dense blue mist lie south of the pass. The Pir Panjal range is located in the north, whereas Kishtwar is located in the west. Manimahesh is in the northeast while Bara Bangahal is in the east.

You may hike downhill from Karri to McLeodganj at the end of the excursion. On the approach to Lamu, the trail from the pass traverses the Chhata and enters a stunning valley before arriving in Kuarsi and Brehi. Following Lamu, the hike route passes via Minikiani Lake and Donali before entering Drakund's thick forest. After passing Minikiani Lake, the path continues on to Kareri Lake, the camp at Kareri, and finally the descent to McLeodganj.

The hike climbs steadily for the most of the first portion, then becomes a little steeper towards the end. A variety of Himalayan wildlife, including the Monal bird, wild goats, and leopard, may be seen along the journey.


Best Time To Visit


The months of mid-May to mid-June and September to mid-October are the ideal times to do the Indrahar Pass Trek. Since the location is one of India's top birding spots, birdwatchers are also well-known for this journey.


Itinerary


On your first day, unwind under the blanket of stars in McLeodganj and take a nap to forget about the chaos.


DAY 1: Make an effort to begin your walk as early in the day as you can. The journey to reach Triund (2994 meters), which is 9 kilometers and takes 3–4 hours to reach, is where the Indrahar Pass Trek starts. You will pass through Dhramkot on your hike to reach the campground.


DAY 2: You will go 6 kilometers over the course of three to four hours on Day 2 from Triund to Lahesh Cave (3598 meters). Prepare for your hike to Lahesh Cave after breakfast by crossing the flyover and going through the outline of oak and conifer trees. Enjoy dinner outside beneath the stars on this lovely night at the campground.


DAY 3: This is the most thrilling day as it covers the most distance of 12 kilometers in 8 to 9 hours, taking you from Lahesh Cave to the Indrahar Pass (4375 meters) via Chatru Parao. There will be a lot of snow on the Indrahar Pass throughout the hike. Set out on the ascent and head toward the Indrahar Pass. The fifth day of this trek is a little challenging because it climbs steeply for 300–400 meters. As you cross the mountain, the captivating Pir Panjal Range (4,100 m) will come into view to the north. Eastward lies the beautiful Mani Mahesh Kailash mountain, standing at 5656 meters. Take in the breathtaking views of the hills before making your way back to the Chatru Parao campground for supper.


DAY 4: You go 15 km over the course of six to seven hours on Day 4 from Chatru Parao to Kuarsi (2747 meters). Traveling along the left side of the valley, you will pass through a few meadows and an overpass before arriving at Kuarsi, which is situated in the valley's right section. Savor a delicious meal at the campground.


DAY 5: Trek from Kuarsi to Machetar (5886 feet) and then travel 16 kilometers over the course of five to six hours to reach Chamba. Start your day with a hike to Machetar, from where you may get a shared cab to your destination in Chamba. The fifth day's hike is simple because it only covers 18 kilometers. Before you head back home, spend the evening regaining your energy after a filling meal at one of the neighborhood eateries.


Important Reminder:


  • Carry toiletries, move/volini, poncho, and power bank.
  • Staying at the rock shelter in Lahesh Cave and stargazing at night
  • Take your time, enjoy the leisurely stroll, and drink plenty of water. Don't speed through the hike.
