Embarking on the Chopta Trek was an experience filled with adventure, spirituality, and breathtaking landscapes. Often referred to as the Mini Switzerland of India, this trek took me through lush green meadows, dense forests, and snow-capped peaks. The highlight was reaching Tungnath, the highest Shiva temple in the world, followed by a rewarding climb to Chandrashila Peak.
I went on this trek in March, when the snow was still fresh on the trails. However, the best time to visit depends on what kind of experience you seek:
My journey started from Rishikesh, where I took a scenic drive through the Garhwal Himalayas to reach Chopta (8,790 ft). The journey itself was a treat, with views of rivers, pine forests, and Himalayan peaks. I reached Chopta in the evening and spent the night camping under a sky full of stars.
Hereâs how my adventure unfolded:
Packing wisely made my trek much more comfortable. Hereâs what I carried:
The Chopta-Tungnath-Chandrashila trek is easy to moderate, making it perfect for beginners and nature lovers. However, the final ascent to Chandrashila Peak is steep and requires stamina. To prepare, I did light cardio and endurance exercises before the trek. Keeping a steady pace and staying hydrated helped me enjoy the climb without exhaustion.
The Chopta trek was a perfect blend of adventure, spirituality, and natural beauty. From the sacred Tungnath Temple to the breathtaking views at Chandrashila, every step was rewarding. If you love trekking, witnessing Himalayan sunrises, and experiencing divine serenity, then Chopta should be on your bucket list!
