My Journey to Chandrashila: A Trekkerâs Tale
Embarking on the Chopta Chandrashila trek had always been on my bucket list. In April 2025, I finally set out to explore this serene part of Uttarakhand, known for its unmatched natural beauty and spiritual calm.
The journey began with a long but scenic drive from Dehradun to Chopta. As we gained altitude, the landscape began to change dramatically. Dense forests, winding mountain roads, and the distant outline of Himalayan peaks made it feel like we were slowly leaving the chaos of the world behind. When we arrived in Chopta, often called the "Mini Switzerland of India," I was instantly in awe of its quiet meadows and crisp mountain air. We set up camp surrounded by rhododendron blooms and the promise of adventure.
The next morning, we began the trek towards Tungnath, the highest Shiva temple in the world. The trail, though short, felt magical. Every turn revealed something newâbright flowers, snow patches, and views that seemed too perfect to be real. After offering prayers at Tungnath, we pushed onward to Chandrashila. The final climb tested my stamina, but reaching the summit at 4,000 meters was worth every step. The 360-degree view of the snow-laden Himalayan giantsâNanda Devi, Trishul, Kedarnathâwas something Iâll never forget.
As we made our way back to Dehradun, my legs were sore, but my heart was full. The Chopta Chandrashila trek wasnât just a hikeâit was a soul-refreshing journey, blending nature, mythology, and sheer wonder in every moment.
