Sometimes, all you need is a weekend in the lap of nature â no phone buzz, no deadlines, just the sound of the river and the rustle of trees. Thatâs exactly what my camping trip to Sakleshpur turned out to be â a refreshing pause from city chaos, tucked away in the lush green hills of Karnataka.
Located just 220 km from Bangalore, Sakleshpur is one of those places that feels untouched yet easy to reach. Famous for its coffee estates, waterfalls, and serene weather, itâs the kind of destination where you can slow down and rediscover calm. Hereâs a glimpse into my experience camping in Sakleshpur and a few tips to help you plan your own perfect weekend getaway.
We started early on a Saturday morning from Bangalore, and within a few hours, the city noise faded into winding roads and endless greenery. The NH75 highway via Hassan is smooth and scenic â a perfect drive for anyone who loves road trips. If you donât have your own car, plenty of KSRTC and private buses run from Bangalore to Sakleshpur daily. You can also take a train to Sakleshpur Railway Station, which itself is surrounded by breathtaking views of misty valleys and coffee plantations.By the time we reached our campsite, the air was cooler, the landscape greener, and my stress â gone.
Our campsite was set beside a small stream, surrounded by tall trees and coffee plants. The first thing that hit me was the silence â broken only by bird calls and the gushing of water nearby.
Tents were neatly pitched, complete with cozy sleeping bags and a campfire area in the middle. As the evening set in, the staff lit up the bonfire, and the whole place came alive with music, laughter, and the smell of barbecue.
Later that night, we lay under a sky full of stars, talking about everything and nothing â something I hadnât done in ages. Thereâs something magical about camping; it slows you down and reminds you how simple happiness can be.
Sakleshpur isnât just about relaxing â itâs a playground for anyone who loves adventure and the outdoors. Hereâs what we did during our two-day stay:
If youâre not into high-energy activities, just find a hammock, grab a cup of hot coffee, and watch the clouds drift by.
The best time for Sakleshpur camping is between October and March, when the weather is cool and comfortable. Days are sunny, and nights are pleasantly cold â perfect for bonfires. If you love lush greenery and donât mind light rain, June to September (monsoon season) transforms the place into a green wonderland. Just be prepared for slippery trails and some leeches on forest treks. Avoid AprilâMay if possible, as it gets warmer and some camps may not offer shade from the sun.
One of the best things about camping in Sakleshpur is how affordable it is. Hereâs a quick breakdown from my trip:
Pro tip: Pack light, but donât forget a pair of slippers or crocs â theyâre lifesavers during stream walks!
If you have an extra day, thereâs a lot to see around Sakleshpur:
Each of these spots is within 20â30 km of Sakleshpur and makes for a great post-camping detour.
As we packed up and headed back to Bangalore, I realized something â this trip wasnât about doing a lot; it was about feeling a lot. The peace, the laughter, the smell of coffee and rain-soaked earth â Sakleshpur had quietly worked its magic.
If youâre tired of the usual touristy getaways and crave something raw, quiet, and close to nature, Sakleshpur camping is the answer. Itâs not just a trip; itâs a pause â a chance to recharge, reconnect, and remember how beautiful slowing down can be.
So grab your backpack, a few good friends, and hit the road â the hills of Sakleshpur are waiting to welcome you with open arms, misty mornings, and starlit nights.
