In a significant stride towards the modernization of Indian railways, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh, on December 30, 2023. The highlight of his visit includes the inauguration of the much-anticipated Amrit Bharat Express, hailed as the "sleeper edition of the high-speed Vande Bharat trains." Let's dive into the exciting features, routes, and fare structure of this revolutionary train that promises to transform the travel experience for passengers.
Amrit Bharat Express is a testament to India's commitment to cutting-edge technology in the railway sector. The train comprises a total of 22 coaches, offering a comfortable journey for passengers. Among them are 12 sleeper coaches, eight general second-class coaches, and 2 guard compartments. The distinctive features include horizontal sliding windows, a semi-permanent coupler between coaches, wider gangways, an aerosol-based fire suppression system, and an emergency disaster management light.
Notably, the train is equipped with 'Kavach' technology, designed to prevent Signal Passing At Danger (SPAD) instances and ensure smooth operations during challenging weather conditions. The incorporation of semi-permanent couplers enhances brake operations, promising a jerk-free ride for passengers.
The Amrit Bharat Express is set to embark on two significant routes. The first one connects Ayodhya to Darbhanga in Bihar, emphasizing the historical and cultural significance of these two places. The second route is expected to link Bengaluru to Malda, further extending the reach and connectivity of this modern rail travel.
As for the fares, the Amrit Bharat Express currently offers second-class and sleeper-class compartments. The Railway Board has established a fare structure with the minimum ticket price set at ₹35 for distances ranging from one km to 50 km, exclusive of reservation fees and additional charges.
Comparatively, the fare for Amrit Bharat Express is marginally higher (15 to 17%) than other mail or express trains in the second and sleeper classes. It's worth noting that concessional tickets and certain free passes will not be applicable for travel on these trains.
Passengers should note that the Railway Board has clarified that concessional tickets and those against free complimentary passes will not be applicable on these trains. However, passes for Members of Parliament, Rail Travel Coupons for MLAs/MLCs, and freedom fighters are permitted, aligning with existing norms.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Ayodhya and the inauguration of the Amrit Bharat Express mark a historic moment in India's journey towards modern and efficient rail travel. As the nation eagerly awaits the unveiling of this technological marvel, it symbolizes not just a train journey but a step into a new era of connectivity and progress. All aboard for a ride into the future!
