Navratri is the Indian festival in which we pray to nine different forms of Goddess Durga in nine days. It falls two times a year the one falling during months of March and April is called Chaitra Navratri. The Navratri celebrated in Autumn season is called Sharad Navratri. 

Festival is celebrated to honour the Goddess Durga who defeated demon Mahishasura in battle. In these nine days, people offer their prayers to the goddess by visiting its temples situated in different parts of India. The main aim behind Navratri is to protect the women as every women is a form of Durga and also praying for health of everyone as well as respecting the women.

Various temples in our country are associated with Goddess Durga and where Navratri celebration take place in a very grand and auspicious manner. Each temple is decorated with lots of flowers, candles and lights which makes the surrounding of temple filled in the devotion.

Vaishno Devi Temple, Katra

One of the most important and biggest temples of Goddess Durga is Vaishno Devi Temple in city of Katra in Jammu. The temple is located on Trikuta Mountain which is 1584m above sea level.

Mythological Story  says that there was a tantrik by name Bhavro Nath and he chased the goddess to this place, in order to protect herself from demon goddess hid in a cave and demon was not able to find her for 9 months. The place where goddess hide is now of the most popular temple and lacks of devotees visit the place during Navratri.

Mansa Devi Temple, Uttarakhand

Mansa Devi Temple is the important pilgrimage site on the way to Haridwar. Visitors visit this temple while enrouting to the birthplace of Goddess Ganga River. During Navratri, lots of followers visit the temple and offer their prayers to the devi. The temple was constructed in 1975 and since then it has been one of the important Durga Mata temple in the country. Visiting the temple during Navratri is considered one of the best to do thing in Uttarakhand.

Kamkhya Temple, Assam

One of the important attractions while exploring Assam is Kamkhya Temple. Situated just 8km away from the city centre of Guwahati the temple is dedicated to Kamkhaya who is considered as goddess of female energy.

It is also a part 0f 108 Shakti Peethas of Goddess Durga. The temple is situated in between the natural cave, it is believed that the temple comes live during Ambubachi fair and Durga Pooja.

Amba Mata Temple, Gujarat

Ambata Mata temple is the important shrine of Goddess Durga. The temple is situated in Junagadh, a picturesque town filled with temples and numerous pilgrimage sites in the state of Gujarat. Lacks of devotees visit the temple all around the year, but the place is found more crowded during Navratri. It dates backs to 12th century and it is believed that visiting this temple right after marriage can assure a happy married life.

Dakineshwar Kali Mandir, Kolkata

Situated along the eastern bank of Hoogly river the temple was built by Rani Rashomani in the year 1847. A famous Indian businesswoman and philosopher. This Kali Mata temple is the most visited site in the entire city of Kolkata. During Durga Pooja, lots of people visit the place from in and around the area of temple. Along with Kali Mata 12 temples in the vicinity are dedicated to Lord Shiva.

Kalkaji Temple, New Delhi 

Situated in the capital city, Kalkaji Temple is dedicated to Kali Mata avatar of Goddess Durga. Temple was built in 1764 AD and is believed that Pandavas from Mahabharata used to come here to worship goddess. The temple gets crowded during the time of Navratri as the Kali Mata is one of the major form of Goddess Durga Mata, visiting the place during evening will give you scenic view of the temple filled with lightings.
