Tourist safety in Ranthambore Tiger Reserve has come under serious question after a shocking incident left 20 visitors stranded in the forest. Their safari vehicle broke down on Saturday evening, and the guide abandoned them instead of ensuring their rescue.
The group was traveling in a canter through Zone 6 of the reserve when the vehicle malfunctioned around 6 pm. Tourists say the guide assured them he would bring another vehicle but disappeared instead. Families, including children, waited in fear for more than an hour until help finally arrived.
A video showing stranded tourists quickly spread on social media. The visuals, which showed families worried for their safety, sparked outrage nationwide. Concerns about animal attacks, especially given the presence of tigers, were highlighted.
Deputy Conservator of Forests, Pramod Dhakad, stated that three canter drivers and the guide involved have been barred from entering the park. Assistant Conservator of Forests, Ashwini Pratap, has been tasked with conducting a full inquiry.
The negligence raises larger questions about how wildlife safaris are managed. Tourists spend significant money for a safe experience, yet incidents like this highlight gaps in preparedness and responsibility.
Experts suggest introducing stricter training for guides, better emergency response systems, and routine vehicle inspections. Without these reforms, tourist confidence could decline, impacting Ranthamboreâs reputation as a premier tiger reserve.
