As you embark on this holy journey, you should know the rituals and practices of it by heart. For that purpose, let us explore these 4 in a bit of detail here.
Ihram is a state in which Muslim men and women indulge themselves during Hajj and Umrah. For this, men put on a piece of unstitched, long garment in white. This is made up of towel fabric mostly. Males put on this, covering their full body except their right shoulder.
Women do not have such a sort of obligation to colour and style however, they must cover their whole body with an abaya as it is preferable.
After you have come to the state of Ihram, now the next step is to perform tawaf. Tawaf is an act of walking around the Ka’abah in a circular motion 7 times. If you circle 6 times or 5, your Umrah would stand invalid. Therefore, it is necessary to complete each step with careful attention.
After completing tawaf, at number 3 you will have to perform Sa’ee which is also an act of walking between the hills of Safa and Marwah 7 times. In tawaf, you walk slowly at normal speed whereas while performing Sa’ee, you should take steps at a speed between walking and running. Hence, it is a bit increased from the normal walking speed.
After completing 7 rounds of walking between the above-mentioned hills, performing Halaq or Qasar is the final step in Umrah. After that, your Umrah will be completed. What is Halaq or Qasar? It is an act of shortening your hair. Men cut their full hair and go bald, whereas women cut just 2 inches. This marks the end of Umrah.
It usually takes 4 to 6 hours for the completion of Umrah. However, the time can vary depending on the physical stamina and, most importantly, age. Young adults can complete it in a maximum of 4 hours whereas old ones can take 6 hours.
Please remember that this time duration is a general observation, hence, not fixed. It can vary as per your body's stamina and weather conditions.
