From the rich tea gardens that define the city to the natural beauty of its wildlife sanctuaries, Dibrugarh has a wide range of experiences waiting to be explored. Join us on a tour through five must-see destinations in Dibrugarh, each promising a distinct combination of natural beauty, cultural legacy, and adventure. Let's go on an incredible journey through this hidden treasure in northeastern India.

Dehing Patkai Wildlife Sanctuary

Dehing Patkai, which covers 111.19 square kilometres, is Assam's only rainforest, with parts located in Dibrugarh and Tinsukia. It is part of the Dehing Patkai Elephant Reserve and Dibru-Deomali. It's a popular spot for Dibrugarh sightseeing since it has a diverse range of flora and wildlife, including orchids and wild bananas. With approximately 293 bird species, 47 animals, 30 butterflies, and 47 reptiles, encountering wildlife is common. Spot Pig Tailed Macaque, Hoolock Gibbon, Asiatic Elephant, Black Panther, Tiger, Black Bear, and Clouded Leopard are surrounded by beautiful greenery, making it a heaven for all the wildlife lovers out there.

Namphake Village

Namphake Village, located 37 kilometres from Dibrugarh, is a sanctuary for Tai Phakey families nestled among breathtaking natural beauty near the Burhi Dihing River. It's a must-see destination since it has a Buddhist monastery that serves as a meditation centre. The monastery has an Ashokan Pillar, a Buddhist Pagoda, and a gold-plated statue of Lord Buddha, along with the Mucalinda Tank. The best time to come is between October and March, when festivals such as Poi-Nen-Chi and Poi-Nun-Hok, on which traditional dance performances by village women are the main highlight. Experience the peaceful atmosphere of Namphake Village and immerse yourself in its cultural richness for an amazing Dibrugarh vacation.

Naharkatia

Naharkatia, a centre for commerce in Dibrugarh, is known for its tea gardens and villages. It was named after an important event in history and is now a popular picnic site. Explore adjacent villages like Namphake and Merill Eco-Tourism, or go to holy places like Vainavi Satra. Naharkatia also has Assam's oldest oil pool. Winter is perfect for visiting, but Durga Puja brings the town to life with vibrant streets and beautiful processions. Dive into the tea-making process in this peaceful yet charming city, and its rich history and cultural events.

Shri Jagannath Temple

The Shri Jagannath Temple in Dibrugarh, also known as Shikshetra Dhaam, is a duplicate of the popular Jagannath Temple in Puri, Odisha. It is a well-known landmark in Khanikar, near Mahatma Gandhi Park. Another important temple is the Raidongia Dol, which was built by Swargodeo Pramatta Singha in 700 AD. Originally devoted to Lord Vishnu, it is today known as the Shiva Dol. The temple's wall originally held 24 sculptures, but only 14 survive, standing approximately 45 feet tall. While the temple is open all year, winter is preferably a better time to visit the temple due to the cooler weather.

Jokai Botanical Garden

Jokai Botanical Garden is an oasis for nature lovers, with a rich variety of plants and wildlife. It offers an attractive combination of botanical wonders, including medicinal plants, orchids, and scented species. Explore the Jokai Reserve on elephant rides or boat trips, particularly during the migration season, to see a variety of species. Families looking for a weekend getaway can find peace and relaxation in the beautiful surroundings. This garden is ideal for nature therapy and highlights Northeast India's vast biodiversity.
